Pat Tiberi (pronounced TEE-berry) is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee that has jurisdiction over tax issues, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and trade agreements. He currently is the Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health.
As a senior Member of the Ways and Means Committee, Tiberi has been a leader on tax, trade and health issues. He is working to simplify the tax code for individuals and families so Americans can have more money in their pockets. Pat Tiberi introduced legislation that passed the House of Representatives to make permanent Section 179 expensing and bonus depreciation—two provisions that give certainty to small businesses and free up capital for them to invest in their businesses and hire more people.
As the U.S. House Trade Subcommittee Chairman, he was also successful in advancing trade legislation to help tear down barriers overseas, creating a more level playing field for American companies to sell their products and services across the globe, while at the same time ensuring that our trading partners are held accountable when they don’t play by the same rules.
Tiberi has also cut more than two million dollars from his own office budget during his time in Congress, and voted for the largest spending cuts since World War Two. He is also leading the fight to reform pork barrel spending by not requesting a Congressional earmark since 2007.
Son of Italian immigrants, Congressman Tiberi has been a lifelong resident of the 12th Congressional District. He is a 1985 graduate of The Ohio State University and was a member of The Ohio State University Marching Band. Congressman Tiberi began his career in public service as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. Prior to being elected to Congress, he worked as a realtor. Congressman Tiberi and his wife, Denice, are the proud parents of four daughters.
