The time is ripe for Washington to seek tax reform, U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Genoa Township) told a small group of Westerville CPAs and small business owners last week.

But when it comes to a small slice of the emerging tax overhaul effort - the House’s effort to pare back a perennial package of business and personal tax breaks - the man to talk to is currently a low-profile congressman from Galena, Ohio.

Rep. Pat Tiberi, R-Genoa Township, sent a check worth nearly $200,000 to the federal treasury — it’s the money he saved last year from his allotment for office salaries, rent and other office expenses.

Since Tiberi has been in Congress in 2001, he has saved $2.1 million in office expenses. Breann Gonzalez, a Tiberi spokeswoman, said the congress man saves money through “a combination of sensible spending and prudent decision making over his career in office.’’
