Ohio Governor John Kasich stands ready to lead as president. In an election where statesmanship, experience, and leadership matter, we can trust our governor to go to Washington and bring real, effective change.
I know this because I worked for John when he was a congressman and before he became chairman of the House Budget Committee. I saw firsthand his focus and drive to listen and take action on behalf Ohioans who called on their government to be more accountable to them. He was a reformer, long before it was in vogue to take on the status quo.
Under his leadership as chairman of the Budget Committee, John led the effort to balance the budget to fight the federal deficit and rein in the debt. As governor, he brought the same solutions and results by balancing Ohio’s budget, cutting taxes by $5 billion, and producing a $2 billion surplus.
As a congressman, as our governor, as a candidate, and as a friend, John listens. We should and absolutely can expect him to do the same as our president. It is a remarkable trait that only comes to those who humbly answer the call to serve.
There is no secret that another candidate in this race, Donald Trump, is making more noise by stirring up controversy and dominating the news cycle.
Without getting into the details (big or small), Donald Trump’s tactics prove that he is terribly out of touch with what makes Ohioans so compassionate, generous, and resilient. We are a state full of people who, like John Kasich, come from simple beginnings, work hard everyday to provide for their families, and always extend a hand to their neighbors in need.
No one understands that more than our governor— who, by the way, has spent more time than any other candidate speaking directly to Americans across the country in town halls.
Americans today are anxious about the future, and understandably so. Wages are stagnant and more and more, families are feeling the strain of tightening budgets. This makes the stakes for this election, where Ohio is always in the spotlight, even higher.
Knowing this and keeping in mind the values we hold most dear, I’m standing behind John Kasich on March 15 and I encourage fellow Ohioans to do the same.
