Rep. Pat Tiberi, who fell short earlier this month in his goal of becoming the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, is nonetheless taking on a new leadership role in that committee.
On Wednesday, he announced that he will chair the committee’s Health Subcommittee. The subcommittee’s previous chairman, Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, will leave that role to serve as chairman of the overall committee.
To take on the position, the Genoa Township Republican will have to vacate his current role as chairman of the Trade Subcommittee, where Tiberi earlier this year played a key role in ushering fast track authority through the House of Representatives.
“I look forward to working with Chairman Brady and other members of the subcommittee to find opportunities to improve the quality, affordability, and accessibility of healthcare, while creating the foundation for a patient-centered health care system for all Americans,” Tiberi said. “ We will build on our efforts to make Medicare more efficient and effective so we can keep Medicare’s promise to tomorrow’s seniors.”
He said he’ll spend his time working to dismantle what he calls “detrimental policies” in President Barack Obama’s health care law.
