One congressman is talking out about President Obama wanting to bypass negotiations in the House and Senate in the interest of speed to get the final healthcare bill to his desk.
12th District Congressman Pat Tiberi says President Obama is backing out of a campaign promise to keep final talks open.
“To not have it on CSPAN and not even have a normal conference committee and exclude the minority party completely, this healthcare debate has been the most behind the scenes debate on a major issue that I have ever seen in my adult lifetime. It is just outrageous.”
Tiberi says if the President and Democrats are so concerned about speed, why wait four years before enacting the reform?
“The irony is that they are trying to get this done so quickly because it is so important to reform our healthcare system, that the tax increases begin immediately, some of the benefit cuts begin immediately, and the actual benefits or reform, what little there is, don’t begin until 2014. It really is unbelievable.”
He adds that he believes that passing the bill before the State of the Union is a just a political ploy.
Tiberi says the passage may be a win for President Obama, but possibly a loss at the polls this November for Democrats.
“The Democratic leadership in Congress is truly delusional if the American people are going to buy what they are selling with this healthcare bill.”
On another matter, Tiberi is also upset that the Nigerian arrested in the plot to blow up a plane Christmas Day has received rights just like an American citizen. |
